Prayer For Church Growth -15 Powerful Prayer Points To Grow A Healthy Church

Before we discuss the prayer for church growth, it is important you understand the meaning of church growth. A few years ago, I attended a conference hosted by a powerful man of God, Dr. Bola Akin John, a teacher of pastors whose ministry focuses on church growth. He teaches everything about church growth, strategies, biblical church growth, and many more. Ever since I attended the conference, my initial perspective on church growth has changed. 

A larger percentage of pastors and church leaders believe church growth is measured by the number of members they have, the size of their auditorium, the number of musical instruments they have, the number of cars in their parking lot every Sunday, and so on. There is nothing bad about having those things, but that is not the biblical standard in Acts 2:41-46. 

Today, we will discuss church growth extensively, and the prayer for church growth will be based on the eternal growth principles of Jesus Christ.

What Is Church Growth

Church growth is a careful study that investigates the nature, function, and health of Christian churches as they relate to the effective implementation of God’s Great Commission to make disciples of all people (Matt. 28:19–20).

Church growth is a spiritual conviction, yet it is practical, striving to combine the eternal principles of God’s word with the best we can learn about how to teach and raise people for Jesus Christ. 

The definitions above show that church growth simply means the effectiveness of a church in the fulfillment of the great commission of making disciples. The church is a living organism that must be alive and growing.

Unfortunately, some leaders argued that church growth does not exist in the Bible, they will tell you that Jesus is the only one that can build his church. There is no doubt, Jesus Christ is the Church builder, however, you should focus more on following Jesus, discipleship, and prayer. 

Church growth is not only about numerical growth, it also encompasses spiritual growth and kingdom growth. Whatever is done to grow the church numerically and physically must glorify the Kingdom of God. Only then can we say the growth is healthy.

Church, as a living organism, must grow healthily, and in order to do so, we categorize the areas of growth that should be prioritized:

Spiritual growth
Numerical growth
Kingdom Growth

A church that is not growing in these areas is not a healthy church. A healthy church is one that is fulfilling God’s imperative and Jesus’ commission, sustaining world evangelization to the uttermost until Christ’s return. Thus, prayer for church growth will focus on the areas listed above.

Prayer For Church Growth 

Spiritual Growth 

A church without the Holy Spirit is just a hall. No human effort can grow a church without the help of the Holy Spirit. Apostle Paul stated that he planted and watered, but it was God who caused it to grow. 1 Corinthians 3:6 No man but God can grow a church. Spiritual growth can only happen when your members love God and worship Him with a clean heart.

1. As the leader of the church, you ask for the revival of God and ask God to purify you with His fire. As a pastor, you must be filled with the Holy spirit if not the Church will be empty.
2. Father, purify me with your fire, let it consume anything that might want to hinder your work in me. Fill with your Holy Spirit and let Him take charge of everything with me. I need the fullness of thy spirit Oh lord. I want more of you.
3. Father, let your fire sanctify your sanctuary, let it consume any contrary spirit that might want to stand as an obstacle in your work. And let Your Angels take charge of this place Oh Lord.
4. Holy Spirit, have your place, we welcome you into the premises, have your way Oh Lord. Fill this arena with your power Oh Lord.
5. Cleanse us from all iniquities, give us a contrite heart and a broken spirit to worship you in truth and in spirit.
6. Oh Lord, let your power flow in this sanctuary and let the whole world know that you reigneth forever.
7. Father, we ask the Holy Spirit to be in charge of everything we’ll be doing in this auditorium, we don’t want to do anything on our own. Let Him be our teacher, our comforter, and our everything.

Numerical Growth 

Numerical growth happens at times when there is spiritual growth. Although we have seen churches that are filled with the Holy Spirit but have a small congregation, Don’t let that bother you, having millions of followers does not mean that you are running a healthy church. Focus more on the spirituality of your church, in that way, you can overcome the works of the flesh, and win souls for the kingdom, which is the main aim. Below are prayers for the church to grow numerically.

1. Heavenly Father, this is your church, direct faithful worshipers here. Open their heart to know that you are here, and as they come here, meet them at the point of their needs.
2. Oh Lord, your people need signs and wonders to know that you are on the throne. Father, manifest your power among us. Heal the sick, and provide for the needy. Give them the miracle that will publicize your work.
3. We ask Oh Lord that you will increase us numerically, from toddlers to adults in Jesus’ name. Bless our potential members, and make their life a testimony to attract people.
4. Father, release the spirit of Evangelism upon each and every one of us, and the grace to evangelize your work.
5. Father, we need financial resources to reach more people and to publicize your work. Life men to carry the burden of this church oh Lord. Enlarge our coast Oh Lord for Your glory.
6. Let your grace on this church begin to attract men and women into this fold. And as they come, make them a useful vessel unto you.

Kingdom Growth 

The combination of spiritual and numerical growth brings kingdom growth. The work of the Church is to prepare people for the kingdom of God. Grow people spiritually and watch them do exploits for the Kingdom of God. 

1. Father, we know the importance of our, please don’t let us fall by the roadside. Help me to run this Kingdom race to the end.
2. Help me Oh Lord to lead your people right,  and teach them those things that will glorify your name in eternity.
3. Dear Lord, I don’t want to miss eternity,  help me to be with you till the end. Grant us the grace to build true disciples for you in Jesus’ Name.

Conclusion

The uttermost aim of the church is to build soldiers for Christ. As you are praying for church growth, ensure that you are building a healthy church.
